Aviation Safety PO involves applying critical thinking to particular topics of aviation safety and security which are used to support a project or comprehensive research question. Aviation safety includes the analysis and evaluation of any and all safety and security concepts, techniques, procedures including SMS, airfield and other aviation facility security, accident investigation, operational safety, Federal Air Marshall Program, terrorism prevention as they influence and relate to the project or comprehensive research question. This paper will look at basic concepts in aviation safety in regards to crew resource management as it pertains to the aviation/aerospace industry.

Crew resource management involves the application of human factors skills and knowledge when it comes to conducting flight operations with the goal of using the available resources efficiently; equipment, systems and humans in order to achieve safe flight operations. CRM is a combination of both individual skills and human factors knowledge together with effective crew coordination. Commercial air transport is still considered the safest modes of transport with the number of fatal accidents per mile travelled being extraordinarily low. However the aviation industry suffers the paradox of very low accident rate but with a very high potential for loosing lives incase accidents occur. Over the past decades it has been noted that close to 75% of the accidents are as a result of human error. This term does not consider that humans are just one [part of the environment they have to interact with components like the weather, social systems, technology and so on. Despite this, humans are still the most basic level the root cause of almost every accident since humans are the ones who design and interact with the elements of the larger part of the environment (Liu, & Zizhang, 2012).

Modern crew resource management focusses mainly on the management of the available resources in order to reduce errors including all the groups of aviation specialists including air traffic controllers, cabin crew members, pilots, mechanics and dispatchers. This is achieved through setting goals, teamwork, awareness and both pro- and reactive feedback. These components of crew resource management are facets of the perezgonzales model of heath and safety management. The aim of Crew resource management is to allow people in their various roles to be bale to manage various core elements and throughputs so as to achieve safer flights.

Training of crew resource management for commercial air crew is now mandatory under several aviation regulatory environments and the practice of CRM is now an integral part of the commercial airline operations.

CRM is a model of management that is used to manage threat and error within the aviation industry. The core elements of CRM are the goal of a safe flight, cooperation and communication between pilots, cabin crew, ATC and dispatch, monitoring of internal and external situation for threats like weather, terrain, fuel state, poor teamwork and giving feedback that will enable practices to be adjusted and of threats done. These core elements are what allow throughputs to be created which in turn enhance system performance (Liu, & Zizhang, 2012).
