Bullying

Perceived Effects and Seriousness of Bullying of 1st Year College Students

There have been several debates on the issue of buying that the new students joining college undergo and many have insinuated that bullying at 1st year of college can have massive impact in the long-term on the victim of bullying. There needs to be a systematic and scientific research that can serve to show whether these are just allegations and claims or if there are true long-term effects that the victims have over years after they are past the 1st year of college. Some have argued that this is more of a ritualistic event that each student passes through and the same subjects to the bullying will be the perpetrators in the next two years hence there is no long-term effect but just a trend that looks more of a ritual. This research will therefore employ a scientific approach to the topic, use the perceived groupings like sex and race to assess if there is truly any long-term effects of bullying in college.

Research questions

What is the difference in student attitudes toward bullying long-term effects between sexes (male, female)? The research will employ a statistical strategy to establish whether there is a difference in the attitudes of the students on the issue of long-term effect of bullying especially if this is dependent on the sex of the victim. The best statistical approach that will be employed here is the one-way ANOVA approach. First, ANOVA is a reliable method of analysis since it gives the explanatory variable in a quantitative outcome in a case where there are two or more levels of treatment.
One-way ANOVA, as will be used in our case, narrows down to the situation where a single treatment will be given at two or more levels. Applicable in our case the single treatment will be the bullying and its long-term effect that will be given to two level sie. The male and the females hence on-way ANOVA will be the ideal to be used here.

What is the difference in student attitudes toward bullying long-term effects between Ethnic Identity (Asian, African-American, Caucasian, Hispanic, Other). This is yet another research question where the one-way ANOVA can be used, though this time the levels of treatment will be more than two since there are more than two races to be analyzed and observed how the long terms effects of bullying is manifest among each race as will be given by the students who will be interviewed.

A. Research Design

This research will predominantly be a quantitative research method. This is a research design that puts more emphasis on the objective measurements as well as the numerical analysis of the information and data collected through various tools like questionnaires or surveys. This method is focused on gathering numerical data and using it as a general rule across groups of subjects. This is the method that will be used in this research since the quantitative research is determined to make clear the relationship between an independent variable and a dependent variable within a population. This will be applicable here as the independent variable which is bullying will be studied to see whether it has long-term effect on the dependent variable, the students who undergo….....
