Evaluation of the Benefits of Pursuing a Hobby

Working out is a great hobby as it has numerous benefits on one’s physical and cognitive development (Warburton, Nicol & Bredin, 2006). One does not need to become a body builder, but setting time aside each day to go for a little walk, do some pull-ups or push-ups or jumping jacks—or really anything at all that gets the blood flowing and the heart pumping is good. This hobby is a great way to reduce stress (Fostering Resilience, n.d.), promote health, and help the brain. This paper will explain why working out is a terrific hobby to pursue as it has so many positive benefits for a person that they are just too many to ignore.

First off, no one will argue that the body doesn’t need maintenance. A body is like a car—one has to take care of it if one wants it to work. Nowadays most people are so busy with their jobs and careers and families and schooling that they just don’t have a lot of time to spend on routine maintenance. The last thing they want to do is more work. That is why having a hobby is such a good thing to have—it allows one to replenish, to get away from the stressors in life, to clear the head and come back refreshed.
There are many hobbies: cooking, traveling, reading, playing piano—but exercising is actually one of the most beneficial hobbies that one can have because it actually takes care of the maintenance side of life while simultaneously giving one a break from life’s work and stress.

Working out gives one an opportunity to exercise in a number of different ways. There is always the gym where one can go to use a variety of exercise equipment—from treadmills to free weights. No matter where one turns, there is the opportunity in a gym to work up a sweat and get the heart pumping. This helps to improve circulation, heart health and mental health (Warburton et al., 2006). It also lets one check out for a while and burn off some of the worries and negative feelings that can accumulate throughout the day (Fostering Resilience, n.d.).

But if one does not like the gym, that’s no reason to worry. Working out does not have to be done at a gym and neither does it require….....
